In the late 1800’s Filey fishing was at its height and by clubbing together local fishing families were able to pay for a fishing yawl and its equipment at £1000, an equivalent of over £1 million in today’s money.

Despite the good times, loss of life on the fishing grounds was appalling and few Filey families were not acquainted with the victims. Our lifeboat room celebrates their lives and those of the brave Filey lifeboat men who continue the tradition of saving lives to this day.
